Chapter 15
Faith
Those were the longest two days of my life. I felt sick from just being at the hospital. I was so glad when they released me to go home on bed rest. I called and left a message for Mr. Cherry that I would not be returning to work for a month and I might not be returning at all.
He immediately called back and told me to let him know either way, and that he would miss my hard work and dedication to the firm. He also said if I had to leave permanently and needed a letter of recommendation, he would provide me with one with no problem and wished me well.
I would definitely refer anybody to work for the law office. He and his partners were good people and they held themselves as if they were specifically chosen by God.
Clint made it very clear that we were moving back to Orlando and that I would not be working. He was the man of the house so I complied. I don’t even know why I told Mr. Cherry I would be back after a month.
I guess I hoped Clint changed his mind, but when I got home today I saw that the packing had already begun so any hope of going back to work went from slim to none. Oh well.
Clint got me in the bed and made me soup and crackers because I didn’t want anything heavy. I felt a whole lot better than I did before I went in.
As soon as Clint brought me hot soup, he said, “Um…your mother called while you were in the hospital and I had to inform her why you were there. I also called and told my mom about the baby.”
I was happy and he was happy, but I knew my parents wouldn’t be. Well, I knew my mother wouldn’t be.
Her last declaration to me was, ‘I know you are officially grown and on your own, but don’t rush into anything major until your finances are in order’.
To me that meant, don’t get pregnant by your husband. Besides taking over the church, I refused to live for my parents. We were adults and did not have to answer to them.
Just as a headache was forming, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID to see who it was and guess what my thoughts got me? A phone call from my mother.
I answered, “Hello?”
“Hi sweetie. How are you feeling? Any better?” she said cheerfully.
I looked at the phone. I wanted to say, who is this and what did you do with First Lady Shirley?
“I am okay mother. Still a bit weak, but living.”
“Well, at least you are feeling a little better and out of that hospital. Clint also told me that you’re moving back here after you come off bed rest, which I think is a good idea.”
I wanted to say, “I actually loathe the idea of being around overbearing parents,” but God said to obey your parents so your days on this earth would be longer.
